Like so many, nonprofits are working to protect their clients, donors and staff members against the spread of COVID-19.

In the early days of the pandemic, some provided food and housing and others provided care for the children of health workers serving the sick. They spent unprecedented dollars on cleaning and sanitizing efforts while others felt the effects of lost ticket sales, participant fees, and other regular income sources.

The impact of COVID continues to take its toll on staff and resources available to the nonprofit sector. New variants give rise to greater threats and concerns over the safety and wellbeing of those served and those providing the care.

Please continue to give to organizations you regularly support, and to those that need your help as we emerge from the pandemic.

Here are some ways you can make a difference locally, right now:

Give to The Community Now Fund

The Community Foundation established The Community Now Fund in 2017 to underscore the importance of a moment in our history for our community to act as one. The Fund represents a collective recommitment to one another and to our shared belief that we can build a stronger future for Greater New Haven by acting together. Your gift to the Community Now Fund enables The Foundation to address immediate community needs, including COVID-19 relief and recovery.

Special note: we encourage you to continue to make gifts online via credit card because of the continuation of remote working and limited resources to process checks at The Foundation while our building remains closed to the public. The Community Foundation has an alternative to accepting checks if you are interested in making a gift by transfer directly from your bank account. Email Linda Estacion, Director of Donor Services, or Liana Garcia, Director of Gift Planning, and they will be glad to provide you with these instructions. See more information on ways to give.
