ARTE Engages Youth Throughout Pandemic

The educational enrichment nonprofit that focusses on local Latino youth moved its Saturday Academy online, and saw a huge success.

Before the pandemic, graduates ARTE's SLATE program (Socialization & Learning Adventures, Through Education) went on a trip to Puerto Rico, where they kayaked in Bioluminescent Bay.

Young students wanting to play music, sing, act and just be around creative kids like themselves had a place to turn every Saturday afternoon throughout the pandemic, thanks to the adept pivoting of Arte Inc. The educational enrichment nonprofit that focusses on local Latino youth moved its Saturday Academy online, and saw a huge success.

“We have consistently had 65-70 students participate each Saturday with their cameras on,” said Director David Greco.

ARTE hires accomplished high school students as instructors to teach musical instruments, voice and acting, a model that has proven very effective for cultivating the next generation of artists, arts educators and leaders.

ARTE was one of 10 local Latino-serving nonprofits to receive matching prize money from the Progreso Latino Fund during the greatGive 2021. Read more about the PLF prize match results here.

Greco said that ARTE will continue the Academy during July & August to keep the momentum going, and will offer a series of family weekend programs and events this summer. Go to ARTE-Inc.com for up to date information.
