Latino-serving Nonprofits Receive Boost from PLF Match During greatGive 2021

Programs offering Latino children and youth opportunities to play music and sports, engage in the arts and receive educational support outside of school received a big boost from The Great Give® 2021, thanks to a matching pool from the Progreso Latino Fund.
The PLF Advisory Committee allocated $10,000 to spread among ten local nonprofit organizations that serve the Latino community, have Latinos in executive leadership and have annual budgets of less than $500,000. Organizations received a share of the pool based on their number of unique donors.
“We wanted to be there for the smaller organizations that do so much for our community but might not have the same resources as the larger organizations to fundraise,” said PLF Advisory Committee Co-chair Yari Ijeh.

ARTE, a New Haven-based enrichment and education program, was the top PLF match recipient, receiving $3,375. ARTE received an organization record of more than $19,000 in total Great Give donations, including an additional match from The Community Foundation.
“We are always impressed with the level of giving by the community. ARTE was delighted with this year's Progreso Latino Fund matching contribution,” said Director David Greco. “ARTE is an effective organization that operates on a small budget. Every dollar is important to us and we are so thankful to PLF for the support.”

Spanish Community of Wallingford (SCOW) staff and volunteers celebrated Cinco de Mayo throughout the giving event. SCOW received a PLF match of $1,411 and raised over $7,500 in total to support its programs.
Other youth serving organizations receiving PLF match support include: the volleyball academy Pequenas Ligas Hispanas de New Haven, which received $2,239 from the PLF match and raised a total of $19,000; and the tennis program New HYTES, which received a PLF match of $600 and raised more than $16,500 and in donations.
