The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven hosts the annual online giving event and community-wide celebration of local nonprofits. From the giving site thegreatgive.org, you can search by nonprofit categories including the arts, children and youth, basic needs, health, and animals. This year’s Great Give was held May 7-8 and featured $227,600 in matching pools and random prize draws sponsored by businesses and organizations throughout the region as well as The Community Foundation and the Valley Community Foundation.

“We are thrilled by the extraordinary generosity in Greater New Haven. This is a moment that demands urgency, and our community responded with record-breaking support,” said The Community Foundation and President & CEO Karen DuBois-Walton. “Local nonprofits are essential to the health and wellbeing of our community  and this year’s Great Give shows how highly their work is valued.”

For the second year in a row, Integrated Refugee and Resettlement Services (IRIS) received the highest amount in donations.

"There are no words that capture our gratitude to the greater New Haven community for the outpouring of support we've received during The Great Give.  As we prepare to welcome several hundred of the 12,000 refugees and Afghan allies who are now, finally, about to be processed for travel, we know that we can make them feel truly at home in Connecticut.  IRIS means community, and community means hope,” said IRIS Executive Director Maggie Mitchell Salem.  "I also recognize that all nonprofits are hurting right now.   We don't operate in a vacuum or silo.  When the sector suffers, as it is now, those we serve suffer too.  I hope other nonprofits also set new records for giving and donors."

The Great Give is open to any nonprofit providing programs and services in the 20 towns served by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. Now in its 16th year, the event has evolved into an important way for organizations of all sizes to engage and expand their donor bases. Random draw prizes are awarded throughout the event to incentivize giving, and most of the top fundraisers and prize winners are small organizations.
