Emerging Leaders of Color: Applications Now Open for Nonprofit Management Program

The Nonprofit Management Cohort is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the next generation of leadership in Greater New Haven’s nonprofit sector.
The Community Foundation is pleased to offer this opportunity to diversify the voices and perspectives of our sector.
Currently employed nonprofit staff who are people of color, work for organizations serving Greater New Haven and who aspire to senior management positions are encouraged to apply.
- This is a two-year cohort program where participants receive bi-weekly training sessions (both in-person and virtual) on a variety of aspects of nonprofit leadership.
- The training program is co-led by the University of Connecticut and after completion of Year 1 of program, participants receive academic credit and certificate of completion.
- Year 2 is comprised of hands-on application of leadership skills, network building and mentoring.
- Participants’ sponsoring nonprofit employer will receive a two-year general operating grant.

"The program has been a transformative experience — and an empowering one. I have had the opportunity to learn more of the ins and outs of what it takes to be a nonprofit leader in New Haven. Hearing directly from leaders in the industry about topics such as budgeting, fundraising, program evaluation, DEI, and board development has provided me with the knowledge needed to be able to contribute meaningfully to my organization. Furthermore, these year-long classes have helped me think through what effective leadership should look like, a lesson I know will be crucial as I hope to one day serve as a senior leader in the nonprofit sector. What I have also appreciated about this program is getting to work with other participants from around the city and state. Their perspectives have been invaluable and have helped me develop a greater appreciation and understanding of different nonprofit organizations in Connecticut.
