The organizational budget is finished and now you are responsible for bringing in funds for certain lines. How do you plan to get there? What blend of individual, major, corporate and foundation gifts are right for you? Explore strategies for creating a realistic but aspirational fund development plan that is based on the human and financial resources available at your organization. Look at several important strategies for sharing the development of a fund development plan as you seek “buy-in” from your board, CEO and staff; as well as monitoring progress on the plan — and when and how to make adjustments.
Karen Jenkins is the Managing Principal for Development4Good, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in fundraising, public affairs and board development for NGOs and nonprofit organizations with an international focus. She has lived and worked in Zambia, Kenya and England. Jenkins is a partner with Social Venture Partners-CT and a founding board member of the New Haven Coalition for Active Transportation. She is an appointed member of the New Haven Historic District Commission and previously served as chair of the Mayor’s Taskforce on Bike Education in New Haven. Previous board service includes chair of the Board of Directors of the League of American Bicyclists and chair of the New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition. Board membership has included the New Brunswick (NJ) Ciclovia, International Education Research Foundation, Model UN/HBCU of the United Nations Association and Minnesota International Health Volunteers. A League Cycling Instructor, she received her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law and an M.A. in International Relations from Yale University. Her undergraduate work was at Fisk University.
