Marie E. Borroff Endowment Fund

Marie Borroff, former Sterling Professor of English, Emeritus, at Yale, was a highly regarded scholar, poet, translator, and teacher of English literature.

She was also a caring, community-minded individual who established a fund by trust at The Community Foundation in 2020 after her death on July 5, 2020 at 95.

Borroff is credited as being one of the pioneering women in the Yale Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

According to Peter Salovey, president of Yale, and Chris Argyris Professor of Psychology, Borroff was, “a superb scholar, dedicated educator, and exemplary community citizen, [who] mentored scores of students and made critical contributions on and beyond our campus through her writing, translation, and teaching.”
