Paolo Rubin Rodriguez Legacy Fund
Est. 2024 by Sergio Rodriguez and Randi Rubin Rodriguez
Randi Rubin Rodriguez and Sergio Rodriguez did not have children of their own, but they did have “a big house” when they decided to become foster parents at the ages of 45 and 46. In the next ten years, they estimate they fostered 51 children. Paolo, at three days old, was the first child they fostered; three years later they adopted him.
A thoughtful, sensitive child and a voracious reader, Paolo loved his family, friends, music, World War II history, gaming, and animals (especially his four cats). At six feet tall, Paolo was known for his big hugs and a huge laugh that could fill a room. Family members remember that his love was unquestionable, and he invited everyone who knew him to share in it. He had made plans to enroll in college to become a history teacher when he died tragically in a gun accident at age 28.

Randi and Sergio are memorializing their son with the Paolo Rubin Rodriguez Legacy Fund – a donor advised fund that will support causes that reflect Paolo’s intellectual curiosity and huge capacity for love and kindness. The fund will provide grants to organizations dedicated to the welfare of cats and financial support for college-bound New Haven Promise students intending to study American history.
Because Paolo had friends all over the world through his gaming interests, Randi and Sergio also plan to support organizations that help youth build relationships and connections through computer technology. Paolo’s love of anime and a wide variety of music will be honored with grants to trauma-focused art therapy programs.
While Randi and Sergio miss their loyal, loving son every day, they look forward to finding comfort in the legacy they have created for Paolo.
