Greater New Haven COVID-19 Community Fund Grant Application
Funding for 2021 for Greater New Haven nonprofit organizations responding to the pandemic.

Grantmaking from the COVID-19 Fund has been temporarily suspended. The Foundation is continuing to consider applications for COVID-related funding through the small grant process for organizations with an operating budget of less than $2M.
The Greater New Haven COVID-19 Community Fund, a joint effort between the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven and United Way of Greater New Haven, provides flexible support for organizations working to respond to issues resulting from the pandemic. Eligible applicants will be organizations that are working on the frontlines with those individuals most severely and disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 crisis in the 20-town Greater New Haven region. There is a particular interest in supporting organizations led by and/or partnering with people of color and/or those living in poverty.
Grant funds are intended to be used to support the delivery of services over the next three to six months. Organizations may request up to $50,000 in funding. As part of the application, organizations should describe how they are adhering to state and CDC guidelines regarding the safe delivery of services. We anticipate this will be a highly competitive process, and grants awarded will depend on available funds.
Organizations must provide services within one of the following cities and towns: Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Oxford, Seymour, Shelton, Wallingford, West Haven, Woodbridge.
Applicants must have a primary focus or emphasis on serving one or more of the populations below who are most severely and disproportionately impacted by the COVID- 19 crisis:
- Individuals who are at high risk of poor health outcomes from COVID-19
- Economically disadvantaged individuals who are suffering from the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis. Economically disadvantaged includes those individuals who are newly unemployed and/or those considered part of the ALICE population.
- Undocumented immigrants and refugees
- African American residents who are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and are experiencing a higher incidence of the virus as well as a higher rate of hospitalizations and deaths.
- Hispanic/Latinx residents who are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and experiencing a high incidence of the virus and hospitalizations.
- Frontline workers (supermarket workers, firemen, policemen, EMTs, public transportation workers, etc.)
Organizations that can demonstrate that they have close relationships with those they serve will be viewed most positively. We also encourage organizations to think through how they can work collaboratively with other partners to increase their effectiveness and reach. Organizations must demonstrate how they have adapted their programs to continue providing high-quality services or creating new, innovative ways to serve their clients, while following the health and safety guidelines required during this pandemic.
Services Considered for Funding
Applicants must be providing or proposing to provide one or more of the following services: (listed below in no particular order of importance):
- Providing basic needs which can include food, shelter, diapers, or financial assistance to individuals based on specified criteria
- Providing for the safety of children and/or adults at higher risk of family or community violence as a result of COVID-19
- Providing for the safety of those working in hazardous conditions as a result of COVID-19
- Providing health and/or mental health services to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, treat those who are infected, or lessen negative mental health outcomes as a result of the pandemic
- Providing child care or other respite and support services to healthcare workers and other frontline workers (supermarket workers, firemen, policemen, EMTs, public transportation workers, etc.)
- Providing education/mentorship services to children and youth most at-risk of becoming or being disengaged from school and out-of-school programs.
The Fund will not make grants directly to individuals, or for small business recovery. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)3 organizations or have a signed agreement with a 501(c)3 organization that serves as their fiduciary.
