The Community Foundation puts its charitable assets to work in the community throughout the year in the form of grants to hundreds of local nonprofits. The collective impact of these resources on the current and future needs of Greater New Haven therefore depends on well-run, sustainably-funded and strong organizations.
How we strengthen nonprofits:
Grants from designated and donor advised funds are made with the direction of donors. Competitive funding opportunities are considered through an application process and funded by flexible funds given by donors over three generations. Grants are made to support general operating costs, special projects and events, and to build organizational capacity.
Capacity Building through Workshops, Events and Knowledge Resources
The Community Foundation offers a full schedule of workshops and events designed to help nonprofit board and staff members meet the challenges of running effective organizations. Topics range from “Building an Organizational Culture” to “Communicating Impact” to “Purposeful Boards, Powerful Fundraising” with Chuck Loring.
The Resource Center is for executive directors, nonprofit staff, board chairs and other board members. Links are profided to information on best practices, tips and tools for organizational operations and links to resources on a variety of topics.
