"One City" Enlivens New Haven

"One City" Enlivens New Haven

Adventure in Every Neighborhood This Summer

A series of free and affordable adventures happening in every New Haven neighborhood this summer kicks off this Thursday. “One City” launches with the “Family Fun Expo,” 4- 8 p.m. at the Floyd Little Athletic Center, 480 Sherman Parkway.

The expo begins 60 days of events, concert series, neighborhood festivals, and other local adventures. Firehouses in each neighborhood are providing fire safety training. A closing ceremony is planned to be held on the New Haven Green on August 26th. All “Once City” events are posted on the New Haven One City website.

The Expo will highlight the events planned around the city for the summer. Books will be available for children who attend the expo, and attendees will receive One City Initiative club cards that include discounts at certain local stores.

The initiative is the work of community management teams across the city, spearheaded by Newhallville Management Chair Kim Harris. Its goal is to build community ties across the city through fun and healthy activities.

“It is very important for all of us to come together and make sure that children, youth and families have what they need to celebrate, grow, and have fun during the summer months,” Harris said.

In addition to planning and promoting events, “One City” is also offering training opportunities including an all-day youth conference on leadership and conflict resolution. A management team leadership training will be taught by Community Foundation Director of Community Outreach Lee Cruz. Register for training here.
