2018 Re-entry Grant Awards

Believe in Me Empowerment Corporation 
$15,000 to support RISE (Re-entering Individuals into Society through Empowerment), a program that provides supportive housing to individuals in the Greater New Haven area returning from incarceration.

Center for Children's Advocacy 
$13,000 to support the Re-entry Reform Project, which combines system reform advocacy and legal rights training to improve re-entry opportunities for 18-21 year-olds who are re-entering New Haven after incarceration.

Community Bonds, Inc. (Connecticut Bail Fund) 
$9,000 to support participatory defense, a community organizing approach that builds power and knowledge among defendants and their families within the court process. The Connecticut Bail Fund aims to post bail, enabling individuals to fight their court cases from a position of freedom reducing the effects or pre-trial incarceration due to the inability to post bail.

Justice Education Center
$12,500 to support the Career Pathways Technology Corridor at Hillhouse High School and to expand current technology trainings to include Automotive Technology in partnership with Gateway Community College.

New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc. 
$18,000 to provide legal services for formerly incarcerated individuals as well as policy and advocacy work. 

Sex Worker and Allies Network (SWAN)
$4,000 to support diversion and harm reduction for formerly incarcerated sex workers in New Haven through outreach and referral services

Stop Solitary CT
$1,000 to support the Storytelling for Advocacy and Systemic Change Project, which engages people who experienced solitary confinement and their family members in a weekend retreat in New Haven to build community within the group, locate a central advocacy story, develop public speaking skills, and develop knowledge of advocacy campaigns and an awareness of self-care strategies. 

VETTS, Inc. 
$12,500 to support advocacy and services for children impacted by incarceration through mentorships with Veterans.

Warren Kimbro Reentry Project 
$15,000 to support comprehensive reentry services through a collaborative effort among multiple service providers.
