The lower naugatuck valley is an important part of the 20-town region served by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.

There are five towns that make up the lower naugatuck valley in Connecticut; they include Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, & Shelton. This area is supported byThe Community Foundation for Greater New Haven primarily through its Valley Neighborhood Small Grants program and through several funds, like the Gates

After a needs assessment of the area was conducted in 2000, the Valley Advisory Committee and The Foundation
explored ways to address chronic issues that were impacting the quality of life for Lower Naugatuck Valley residents. The exploration resulted in the creation The Valley Community Foundation in 2004. The Valley Community Foundation is an affiliate of The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven that works to promote increased philanthropy and serve the charitable needs of the 5 aforementioned towns.
