April Application Deadline for Milton Fisher Scholarship Drawing Near

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Haven, CT (March 19, 2010) – The April 12, 2010 deadline for the Milton Fisher Scholarship for Innovation and Creativity is rapidly approaching.  Scholarships are awarded from the Milton Fisher Scholarship Fund at The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven on the basis of inventive and inspired problem solving; high school juniors and seniors and college freshmen from Connecticut and the New York metropolitan area are eligible to apply.  Applications and a complete set of guidelines can be downloaded at www.rbffoundation.org or by calling The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven at 203-777-2386.

A four year award of up to $20,000 is available to the winners, to be paid up to $5,000 each of the four years.

Last year, more scholarships were awarded through this program than ever before.  A total of $136,000 in college scholarships was awarded to 8 high school students and $8000 was awarded to 16 high school students for honorable mention.

These scholarships were awarded based on the compassion and originality these students showed in their solutions to solve problems in their schools, communities or families.  Some of last year’s winners: created art galleries for students to express themselves, conducted research to inspire further focus on treatments on spinal cord injuries, established health programs for an overweight community and taught a children’s pottery class at a local museum.  Their solutions focused on the areas of science, the arts, and social action in their communities.

The Milton Fisher Scholarship is made possible through the Renee B. Fisher Foundation, and is administered by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, the region’s largest grantmaker and charitable endowment. For more information about The Community Foundation visit www.cfgnh.org.
