Announcing Challenge Grant to Benefit Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program

The Foundation is pleased to announce that the United Way of Greater New Haven has been awarded a $50,000 matching grant in support of its Neighbor-to-Neighbor (N2N) program.
The match grant is made possible through The Foundation’s Silverthau and Kittredge Funds, established by bequests in 1941 and 1970, respectively.

The challenge grant to N2N works as follows: if 20 Give/Get members raise $10,000 each, N2N will receive a $50,000 grant.  Give/Get group members are community leaders and volunteers who are working together to raise $200,000 for Neighbor-to-Neighbor LifeLine. Each Give/Get member commits to giving and/or raising $10,000 through their personal networks and special events.  Give/Get members are using the challenge grant to identify new donors and seek increased giving from existing donors.

Started in 2009, in partnership with The Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program was designed to provide emergency funding to local non-profit organizations and the local community, in need of food, housing, or heat. The program also provides members of the community with financial coaching, skills training, and resume writing as a means to provide long-term financial help, in a tough economic climate.

Last year, the program raised nearly $650,000, used to help hundreds of families stay in homes, and provide more than 150,000 meals to the needy.  Neighbor-to-Neighbor has set a fundraising goal of $1 million for 2010.  To support the program, visit www.n2nlifeline.org.  Online credit card donations are accepted.
