Change in Leadership of New Haven Healthy Start Program
February 5, 2010 - The Community Foundation’s New Haven Healthy
Start (NHHS) program announced a change in leadership today. Director
Delores Greenlee will be leaving on February 12, 2010 to pursue other
interests. Delores has led a dedicated team of professionals in the
fight to end infant mortality in New Haven for the past 6 and one half
years. As part of the NHHS team, she helped increase the percentage of
women receiving prenatal care in New Haven by 13% and helped secure
millions in the form of federal aid for women and children’s health.
A search for a new Director will begin shortly. In the interim, Kenn
Harris, the current Care Coordinator and Data Manager, will assume the
Program Director’s responsibilities. Kenn served as the first Director
of NHHS when it began in 1997 and has extensive knowledge of maternal
health, and the local, State and Federal partnerships that have made the program a model for other communities to follow.
Despite the successes of NHHS, infants 12 months or younger continue
to die at an alarming rate in New Haven. Infant mortality is highest
among African Americans and in some neighborhoods, as high as 29 out of
every 1,000 infants die before the age of one.
