These Food & Shelter Providers Need Your Help

The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven has pledged to donate $1 for every $2 given to nonprofits providing basic needs services such as food, clothing, fuel and shelter


NEW HAVEN, CT – (October 23, 2009) The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven announces the return of its “Making a Good Gift Better” matching grants program for nonprofits providing food, shelter, clothing, or fuel to Greater New Haven residents. Every $2 donation to the 29 participating nonprofit organizations between November 2, 2009 and January 15, 2010 will be matched with a $1 donation from The Community Foundation up to $5,000 per each organization; participating organizations include:

The Making a Good Gift Better program is in its fourth year and was created to encourage nonprofit organizations providing basic needs services to strengthen their operational and development capacities and to focus on increasing their resources by fundraising.

Since 1928, donors to The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven have built the community's endowment valued at approximately $275 million. In 2008, The Foundation distributed approximately $14 million in grants from more than 700 different charitable funds supporting a wide range of programs and projects.
