Protect the Quinnipiac River and our Waterways

Learn

The Quinnipiac River is an invaluable natural resource, a sanctuary for humans and animals alike. It is an outdoor classroom, a recreation destination, and a habitat for native species, such as osprey, fish, turtles, butterflies and bees. Your financial support of conservation efforts like watershed protection ensures that future generations will share in the benefits of a vital natural resource. Read more...

With support from the Quinnipiac River Fund at The Community Foundation, the Quinnipiac River Watershed Association has produced several publications designed to inform the public about the need for watershed protection and how to use the River for recreational purposes. For example, the Streamside Landowner's Guide to the Quinnipiac Greenway  was created for citizens to provide a one-stop conservation management resource tailored to the needs of waterfront landowners in the Quinnipac River Watershed. The guide offers best practices, tax benefits and legal and regulatory conservation tools toward preventing and reducing nonproint source pollution. The Community Foundation promotes environmental management efforts like the preservation of the Quinnipiac as well as land and energy conservation and greening and recycling initiatives through many permanent endowments

News, Reports & Resources

The risks from lawn care pesticides can persist in soil and water for weeks, which can lead to the contamination of aquatic resources and local wildlife. Studies of major rivers and streams have documented that 100 percent of all surface water samples contained one or more pesticides at detectable levels.

This canoeable trail guide of the Quinnipiac River was created to educate citizens about the habitats along the River and encourage responsible stewardship of one of Greater New Haven’s most precious natural resources.
