The Women and Family Life Center (WFLC)  in Guilford provides education, enrichment, support and referral services to help women and families meet the challenges of daily living and personal development.

For the last three years, WFLC has been helping young women build their self esteem through the Girls Coach, Girls Run program. As the girls train to participate in a 5K, they are taught self-discipline, focus and how to take care of their bodies. The overall goal is to teach young ladies how to deal with self-esteem and body issues. The Center reports that one father saw positive effects in his normally reserved daughter after just one week. The quiet youth began interacting with her younger siblings in a different way and developed a bond with her teammates that gave her a sense of belonging and strengthened her confidence. The organization is in the planning stages of creating a boys mentoring program.

The Center has a long history of offering programs that encourage positive youth development including programs that have addressed the issue of cyber bullying and encouraged youth to assert themselves. Finding enough resources to support programming at the Center can be a challenge. It's one of the reasons that The Community Foundation awarded a multi-year grant to WFLC in 2010.
