New Haven Promise

New Haven Promise (NHP) promotes college education as a community aspiration and provides college scholarships to qualifying high school graduates. NHP is a Community Foundation partnership with Yale University and New Haven Public Schools (NHPS) that is also supported generously by other local and national funders. 150 scholarships were awarded to NHPS 2011 graduates, 115 of which were accepted, with 105 students enrolling at sixteen different colleges and universities in the state. In addition to the scholarships, NHP works in schools and community-based programs to ignite and support a college-going culture. NHP, in collaboration with College Summit and NHPS, developed and implemented a college preparation curriculum that starts in pre-kindergarten.
The Community Foundation believes that the quality of students’ education is critical to the future of our region, including its economic development, equal opportunity for all, and residents’ overall quality of life. With that understanding, on November 9, 2010, The Community Foundation joined with the
City of New Haven,
New Haven Public Schools &
Yale University to announce
New Haven Promise (NHP). For its part, The Community Foundation is providing funds needed to administer the program. For more information about New Haven Promise, visit
