The Community Fund for Women and Girls
- Has awarded over $560,000 (170 grants to 99 individual organizations)
- Over 17,000 women and girls have participated in fund supported programs
- Grants have reached all ages– girls (20%), teens (25%), women (28%) and mature women and intergenerational programs (27%).
- Grants awarded are in health (33%), economic security – including education (32%), violence prevention, political participation and enrichment programming (22%) and cross multiple issue areas (13%).
- grants by geography: 39% in the Greater New Haven region, 30% in New Haven, 19% in the suburbs and ring communities (including the Lower Naugatuck Valley) and 12% statewide and beyond.

The 9th Annual Women's Health Conference, presented by the Women & Family Life Center in partnership with Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman was held in New Haven on March 5 & 6th this year. On March 5th, the Community Fund for Women & Girls - a component fund of The Community Foundation - hosted a pre-conference reception that included a special viewing of the Fund's new documentary, "I'm a Philanthropist: How Women Are Changing America's Charitable Landscape".

New Haven plans celebration of the "90th of the 19th"
Beginning in 2008, an endowment building campaign was started to grow the size of the Fund to $2 million to increase the number and size of grants awarded each year. Donors who make gifts or pledges at $10,000 or more can create individually-named funds that will benefit women and girls' programs in perpetuity. Click here for more information.

No 1: Women’s funds, of which there are nine (9) in the State of Connecticut, help correct that imbalance by reflecting women’s priorities and make sure that these important gender specific programs and issues receive attention and get funded.
No 2: Women are responsible for 80% of philanthropic giving in the United States, but funding that targets the specific needs of women and girls is less than 10% of all philanthropic funding.
No 3: Women’s funds possess unique knowledge, values and expertise, are solution builders whose investment ripples broadly through the communities they support and often leads to lasting social change.
No 4: Studies show grants from women’s funds yield more results per grant dollar and usually leverage additional funding.
