William Sherry Fund

When their adopted son, William B. Sherry, was diagnosed with a psychiatric illness, Mildred and William A. Sherry did what came naturally - they sought out the best available care and set a plan in motion to protect their son’s future. With no other immediate heirs, the Sherrys established a trust that gave them a lifetime income and ensured a lifetime of care for their son. Upon William's death in 2002, the trust transfered to The Community Foundation where it is now a preference fund according to the couple's wishes. Today, the Sherry Fund is valued at over $750,000. Fifty percent of its income is allocated for unrestricted use, while the other half is earmarked for the treatment of mental health patients.
