Bequests Build the Community Endowment

Named for the donor whose bequest established the first fund in 1928, the Nettie Dayton Circle honors the generous people who have created a permanent legacy for the community through a deferred gift or bequest. In 2011, membership in the Circle increased to 114 members and the annual recognition event was held at the home of Kel and Will Ginsberg. At the event, Board member Shelly Saczynski (above) told guests about the decision she and her husband had made to include a bequest to The Community Foundation in their charitable giving plans. Among the bequests received in 2011 was that of Helen Jones, whose fund will be used for “the care, support and succor of the poor and needy in the Greater New Haven area….” The bequest of Helen Jones capped a lifetime of philanthropy and work with The Community Foundation as a fund founder. Bequests received in 2011 totaled $ 23.6 million.
