New Report Documents Quality of Life in Valley

The Valley Council for Health & Human Services, a partnership network of health and human service providers, released the first Valley CARES Quality of Life Report in January 2011. Key indicators of community wellbeing in the towns of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton are described in the report. The quality of life indicators cover 8 key areas of wellbeing, including education, health, safety, natural environment, and community engagement. Like community indicators projects that have been conducted across the country, the goal is to monitor community conditions over time to identify current strengths as well as areas that may need improvement. Funding to produce the report was made possible through a $20,000 grant from The Community Foundation and a $5,500 grant from its partner the Valley Community Foundation. Additional supporters included the Valley United Way, the Katharine Matthies Foundation, the Naugatuck Valley Health District, and the member agencies of the Valley Council.
