Strong Investment Performance

The Community Foundation’s Corporation once again demonstrated strong investment performance, outperforming market benchmarks. The one-year return for the years ending December 31, 2010 and 2009 was 10.6% and 27.0% respectively. The five year return was 5.1%, and the return since inception (1995) was 8.7%.

Investment management is guided by The Community Foundation’s Investment Committee working in concert with a leading investment consulting firm, Colonial Consulting LLC. Investment Committee members are appointed by the Board of Directors annually and oversee and implement the strategies, models, and managers for the investment of the charitable assets entrusted to The Community Foundation. The Committee consists of:

• two (2) members of The Community Foundation’s Board of Directors (David Newton, Chair of Investment Committee; Will Colwell);
• four (4) members from The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s trustees (Peter Weston, Bank of America; Steve Capisi, Bank of America; Mike Bayles, Wells Fargo; Donald Rotzien, Wells Fargo);
• two (2) independent investment experts selected by the committee’s membership (Ellen Shuman, Carnegie Corporation; Cindy Steer, Russell Investments).
